Want to elevate your tea experience? Try delicious sticky chai
Sticky chai teas are making their way onto café menus across Australia—and it’s no surprise they’re a hit with chai enthusiasts and adventurous tea drinkers alike.
There’s a bit of mystery around sticky chai, though (I get asked about it all the time!). So, I’ve put together this post to answer some of the most common questions and help you discover why sticky chai could be your next favourite brew.
What’s sticky chai?
I love this name! It brings back memories of lazing about on warm summer nights and the scent of freshly ground spices and honey while my mum brewed cups of tea in the kitchen.
Sticky chai is a unique twist on traditional chai tea, featuring a thicker, syrup-like consistency that enhances its rich flavours. This gorgeous brew combines freshly ground spices, premium tea leaves, and a touch of natural sweetness, often from honey.
Unlike regular chai tea, which is brewed quickly, sticky chai involves a slower blending process, allowing the ingredients to infuse and retain their natural goodness and create a balanced flavour taste.

What’s the difference between sticky chai, normal chai and dirty chai?
- Sticky chai has a sweetener added to it, either honey, agave or sugar generally.
- Normal chai tea usually only has dry tea and chai spices (the OG of masala chai).
- Dirty chai is made with tea or chai concentrate, one shot of espresso, and steamed milk. Unlike ordinary chai (masala chai) or sticky chai, this beverage is a cross between a regular latte and chai (coffee or tea? Nah, both!).
Sticky chai offers a unique taste experience that sets it apart from other types of chai tea. At The Chai Room, my sticky chai is handcrafted using fresh, local, and imported ingredients with no preservatives, ensuring you enjoy maximum freshness and flavour. #supportsmallbusiness
What are the health benefits of drinking sticky chai?
Sticky chai tea is rich in antioxidants because it has spices known for their anti-inflammatory properties such as turmeric, cinnamon, black pepper and fresh ginger. It’s a comforting drink that can support your digestion and boost immunity. A perfect all-year-round beverage!
It can also have some other ingredients that help support joint health, a general sense of health and wellbeing, and promote relaxation.
I love Masala Chai and Turmeric and honey blend!! I can’t start my day without a cup of chai from the chai room. They are so beautiful and love how they are always delivered with some personal touch I.e. handwritten note.

How do I prepare sticky chai?
Simply mix the tea with hot water or milk, stir, and enjoy! You can also customise it by adding more honey or your favourite spices.
Brew tip: Customers tell me they love frothing their milk in a coffee machine and adding it to their sticky chai. It shortens the time it takes to prepare the tea, especially during busy mornings or when they need a pick-me-up.
Can I drink sticky chai if I’m sensitive to caffeine?
Sticky chai is usually made with black tea leaves so it still contains some caffeine. If you want to skip the caffeine, I’ve got you covered!
Try my Rooibos and Raw Honey Masala Blend—it’s caffeine-free but just as delicious.
Is sticky chai vegan?
While many sticky chai blends contain honey, there are also vegan options available. Look for blends made with plant-based sweeteners, such as agave or coconut nectar.
My Turmeric and Coconut Nectar Chai is a fantastic vegan choice, featuring organic coconut nectar for a naturally sweet, satisfying brew.
What makes the Chai Room’s award-winning sticky chai tea the best?
I believe that a good cup of chai begins with premium and fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
My sticky chai is hand-blended slowly to preserve its nutritional value and ensure every cup is bursting with flavour.
Here’s what makes my sticky chai the best in Australia:
- Fresh, premium ingredients: Many of the ingredients are sourced locally and my tea is imported from a premium estate, ensuring that every spice and tea leaf is of the highest quality.
- Fresh-ground spices: My spices are ground fresh to unlock their full flavour and goodness potential, making each sip delightful.
- Australian honey: Sweetened with honey sourced directly from farmers in Northern NSW, my sticky chai offers a natural and wholesome sweetness. I use organic coconut nectar as a vegan option for my Turmeric and Coconut Nectar Chai.
- Eco-friendly packaging: I’m about sustainability and doing business that’s good for the planet too. That’s why my chai is packaged in recyclable materials, and you have the choice of refills too.
- Award-winning chai: My Rooibos and Raw Honey Masala Blend Caffeine Free tea won Silver at the Royal Tasmanian Fine Food awards.
