The Chai Room Joins Powerhouse Parramatta’s Little India Dinner Series

Something truly special is brewing at The Chai Room HQ as I gear up for an incredible opportunity in 2025!

I’m beyond excited to share that I’ll be conducting exclusive after-dinner chai tastings as part of Powerhouse Parramatta’s Little India Dinner Series.

This series is a vibrant celebration of Indian food culture, shining a spotlight on the incredible restaurants and food traditions of Harris Park, affectionately known as “Little India.” It’s a project that brings together the flavours, stories, and connections that food can create, and I’m so honoured to play a role in this beautiful celebration.

Hosted by the inspiring Bhavna Kalra Shivalkar of The Modern Desi and culinary legend Kylie Kwong, the series showcases the depth and diversity of the Indian community in Western Sydney. As a woman who carries the legacy of chai passed down through generations of my Indian-British heritage, this event is especially close to my heart.

A family legacy in every cup

Chai isn’t just a drink to me; it’s a tradition steeped in love, connection, and belonging. My recipes have travelled with my family across India, the UK, and Africa, eventually landing here in Australia.

Every blend I create at The Chai Room tells a story—of my mother teaching me how to infuse the perfect balance of spices, of shared moments over steaming cups, and of the joy that comes from bringing people together.

Being part of this dinner series allows me to share not only my chai but also the essence of these stories.

Each cup that I serve will be an invitation to pause, connect, and savour the richness of life’s simple rituals.

A dream come true

What makes this opportunity even more surreal is working alongside Kylie Kwong, a culinary visionary and someone I’ve admired for years.

Her commitment to the Australia-on-a-plate approach and community-building has been an inspiration, and being included in a project she’s championing feels like a dream come true.

Through Kylie’s guidance and Powerhouse Parramatta’s dedication to showcasing cultural diversity, this series promises to be a true celebration of food as a connector. I’m thrilled to contribute to this vision and can’t wait to meet everyone who joins us.

Will you join us at the table?

The Little India Dinner Series is more than an event; it’s an experience that invites you to taste, listen, and connect. I’m looking forward to meeting new people, hearing their stories, and sharing the warmth of chai with them in this unique setting.
