Spiced up: What makes our chai tea blends unique

What makes our chai blends so exceptional? We take great care in sustainably sourcing the freshest, organic spices to add to our teas as locally as possible.

Avoid the ‘nasties’ of sugar-laden, store bought chai imitation mixes and brew yourself a cup of antioxidant rich, healing chai with our original masala chai tea or ginger masala chai tea blends.

Simmered gently with your choice of milk, create a warm, spicy, exotic concoction that makes the perfect, morning energy boost or to bring clarity and soothe in the evening.

Black tea and spices in our chai blends have a myriad of health benefits that have been recognised from ancient times in India. Here is a short description of just some of the potential benefits of the spices used in our premium chai tea blends:

Black tea

Regular consumption of black tea can reduce levels of ‘bad’ cholesterol and help prevent heart attacks and stroke. Polyphenols in black tea are also known for their antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activity, and have been linked to weight loss. Antioxidants found in black tea may help to reduce cell damage - keeping us looking young and our bodies feeling great. Surprisingly, the free radical scavenging activity of black tea is higher than that of green tea!

The root ginger is commonly used in Eastern medicine for a variety of functions. Best known for its use against seasickness and colds, ginger also aids digestion, boosts the immune system, improves circulation and reduces inflammation. As well, organic ginger is packed with antioxidants. What makes our ginger great is that we hand pick locally grown ginger and hand dry it ourselves to ensure that it is fresh and fragrant with every batch.

Vanilla beans

The B-complex vitamins in vanilla beans play numerous roles in enzyme synthesis, regulation of metabolism and nervous system function. The addition of vanilla beans makes for soothing and healing beverage, with evidence to show mild sedative and anti-depressant properties.

With a long history of use in traditional herbal medicine, cinnamon is a worthy member of our magic chai mix. Hailed for stabilising blood sugars, cinnamon also has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-clotting, brain boosting, cholesterol-lowering, and immune-modulator effects. Cinnamon is used in traditional Chinese medicine to provide relief from cold and flu symptoms, typically in combination with ginger.

Besides providing a warm, sweet and aromatic taste to food and tea, cloves have also been employed for medicinal purposes as a mild pain reliever and anti-bacterial agent. As well, cloves promote healthy digestion.

The exotic spice cardamom is a seedpod native to the evergreen rain forest of Kerala, a South Indian state. Traditionally, cardamom has been applied as an antiseptic, antispasmodic, digestive, diuretic, and much more! Cardamom is proportionally high in many vitamins and minerals, including manganese.
